FAQ
FAQ’s
How are you different from other cremation providers?
- We are a private, family-owned business with no affiliation to other funeral homes and memorial societies
- We don’t engage in two-tier pricing where you receive one price from the parent company and another cheaper price from their cremation service
- We offer one low, affordable price which many funeral homes will match, except our price started that low
- We don’t upsell the expensive extras and ONLY provide you what you ask for because that’s Basic.
How else are you different?
- We don’t require payment up-front or a deposit! We prefer you pay us once we’ve completed our service
- You can pay us upon delivery of the ashes to you or just prior to delivery
- We accept E-Transfers, personal cheques, bank drafts, or cash – no credit cards to keep the price low!
Where are you located?
A Basic Cremation Inc.’s home office is in Coquitlam (link/see about page). Though we complete arrangements online, we are happy to see you for anything you need. Please call us to set up an appointment.
Where do you take our loved ones remains to?
Your loved one’s remains are directly transferred to the crematorium in Maple Ridge as soon as practically possible to await cremation. Under provincial law, the cremation may only take place 48 hours after the time of death and once all necessary documentation is in place.
How Long Does it take?
Under normal circumstances, we will have delivery of the ashes and death certificate within 10 days from the day:
- Cremation documents are signed
- Your loved one is transferred to the crematory
- The doctor or coroner has sent us the medical certificate of death, whichever is later
- Please understand that this process may take longer during certain holidays and long weekends
What are the costs?
A Basic Cremation Inc. costs significantly less with just one basic package. There are optional extras that will incur additional fees but aren’t required – to learn more, see our ‘Basic Package’ page
Can we have a viewing or witness the start of the cremation?
- Yes! A viewing prior to cremation or a witness cremation can be arranged with sufficient notice (fees and certain restrictions apply)
- Viewing prior to cremation will occur in a viewing room whereas the witness cremation will occur in the facility bay
What if we don’t want the ashes back?
We offer permanent sea-scattering for a nominal fee. Your loved one’s ashes will be scattered in the Burrard Inlet or Georgia Straight during the summer months by boat charter
What if we want to bury or ship the ashes?
- We can provide you with a list of cemeteries you can contact for burial, and we will deliver the ashes to any cemetery in the Greater Vancouver area for you at no extra charge
- Regarding shipping, we will package and ship for you pre-paid. All shipping, packaging, and handling fees plus tax are additional
Do you do services?
- We do not offer funeral or memorial services. A Basic Cremation Inc. is for families who do not wish to hold a service or who wish to hold a Celebration of Life on their own
- We are happy to recommend a Minister or Celebrant if you wish to plan and hold your own service
Do you offer newspaper death notices?
- We do not offer death notices. Most of our client families wish to place obituaries and death notices directly with the newspaper
- When doing so, ensure to prepare the obituary before contacting them
Why aren’t you a member of the BBB?
- A Basic Cremation Inc. is fully licensed and regulated by Consumer Protection BC, which regulates the entire funeral, cemetery, and cremation industry
- Consumer Protection BC requires us under provincial law to follow strict business practices to uphold a good standing and maintain licensing
- Please contact Consumer Protection BC to confirm our credentials, good standing, and licensing status
